"DSI: Actor admits reds shot at troops
Methi Amornwuthikul, an actor and anti-government protester, admitted involvement in the shooting at army soldiers on the night of April 10 on Ratchadamnoen Avenue and said they acted on the orders of leaders of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), Department of Special Investigation director-general Tarit Pengdit said on Friday.Mr Tarit said this in a televised statement at the Centre for the Resolution for Emergency Situations (CRES).
Mr Methi was arrested by police in Khlong San district early on Thursday in possession of an assault rifle stolen from the military during the clash on the night of April 10.
The DSI chief said in the course of interrogation Mr Methi admitted war weapons were fired from "his side" at army soldiers in front of Satriwitthaya School when the military moved to retake the area around Phan Fa bridge from the red-shirts.
Mr Methi said the shooting was ordered by the UDD leadership, Mr Tarit said.
The actor also admitted a number of weapons, including machinegunes, were stolen from army soldiers and that he had distributed them to many other people. Mr Methi was caught with a stolen assault rifle.
Mr Tarit said Mr Methi gave useful information about armed men in black who opened fire at the soldiers. He said these men were suspected to have been involved in the fatal M79 attack on Silom road on Thursday night."

Jaran Ditha-apichai, a core member of the UDD and former member of the National Human Rights Commission, said whatever Mr Methi told the DSI would not make any difference, because people throughout the country already believed that the government that ordered the soldiers to kill the people.
"UDD core members are not worried. This is a matter for a legal battle," Mr Jaran said.
Weng Tojirakarn, another UDD leader, said Mr Methi no longer had anything to do with the UDD.
He said Mr Methi acted alone, he had lately distanced himself from the UDD and even attacked it."
